The Print Group operates non-heatset printing presses in six metropolitan markets. They include, Atlanta, Boston, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Washington, D.C. In addition, Gannett Offset provides heatset printing capabilities at plants in Minneapolis.
Each of the non-heatset plants produce USA TODAY for their respective regions. Gannett Offset is the world’s largest single producer of USA TODAY as collectively, the plants produce more than 1,000,000 copies daily (Monday through Friday).
The Gannett Offset/Springfield (VA) facility has been called “The Birthplace of USA TODAY”, as it became the first site to produce “The Nation’s Newspaper” when it launched on September 15, 1982.
By using the ever-demanding “standard operating procedures” developed to make USA TODAY the recognized leader in four-color newspaper printing, Gannett Offset production facilities are able to offer the same outstanding quality and consistency to their other local, regional and national commercial printing customers.
Gannett Offset/Minneapolis has been an award-winning heatset printing operation for many years. Specializing in high-quality, high volume retail, direct marketing and magazine production, the facility formerly known as Printed Media Companies, was purchased by Gannett Offset in 1997.
Gannett Offset/Minneapolis moved into a new 184,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art production facility in suburban Maple Grove, MN in early 1999. It began offering non-heatset printing services June 1, 1999 when it launched USA TODAY on a new MAN-Roland Uniset 70 press. The multi-faceted plant also offers mini-web and sheetfed printing services.
